Transit Number Field

The MICR line transit number field identifies the bank or financial institution from which funds are to be drawn. In the American banking system, the transit data is incorporated with other institution data into the well-known routing transit number (RTN). Canadian banks typically separate routing data into a 5-digit transit number and a 3-digit institution number. For this reason, the term Transit Number most commonly refers to the Canadian MICR field illustrated below.

Other MICR fields include: Amount Field, Account Number Field, Institution, Routing Transit Number and the Check Number field.
