Account Number Field
- Account Number Field
The MICR account number field is a required component of the MICR line. US account numbers are 3-17 digits long. Canadian account numbers are 7 digits long. These numbers may be broken up using a MICR dash symbol separator.

Not only do American and Canadian banks have unique account number formats, but their placement within the MICR line is also unique. As well, most Canadian institutions will separate account numbers into 4 and 3 digits (XXXX-XXX).
Other MICR fields include: Amount Field, Transit and Institution or Routing Transit Number and the Check Number field.
