Compare Check Printing With MICR Check Printing
There are two ways to print checks. Benefits of either method include a greater level of financial security, payroll flexibility and overall cost-savings. The difference between the two methods is the extent of the printing and the use of blank check stock.
Regular check printing entails purchasing checks, normally from the bank, with pre-printed logos, addresses, and most importantly, a pre-printed MICR line. This type of check can be filled out manually (by hand) or with computer software and any printing device.
MICR check printing entails the use of completely BLANK check stock or paper. Blank check stock contains no data whatsoever and can never be filled out manually. By using a MICR printer and a MICR toner cartridge, you print your own MICR lines- account, amount, transit data located at the bottom of each check. Since blank check stock contains no data, you are free to print logos and company or contact information as you see fit.
MICR check printing has many practical and affordable advantages with very few disadvantages. If you’re already printing your checks, great, although consider an upgrade to MICR check printing if this is all news to you.
